  • Founded in 1998
  • Participation has grown steadily over the years. The idea of sharing kindness has no boundaries. Citizens of Canada, Switzerland, South Africa, England, Australia, and several other countries are helping to spread the word. (This are the ones we know about.)
  • National Compliment Day grew out of the work Kathy Chamberlin and Debby Hoffman do in their business and personal growth seminars and their book - Find Something Nice to Say -- The Power of Compliments.

Radio Ideas

  1. Have a dedication or call-in show? Encourage listeners to call with compliments for other people or stories about great compliments they've received. This could even be done for a whole week with each day dedicated to a specific group of people
    • Those close to you (spouse/partner, children, parents, siblings, best friends)
    • Those you work with (employees, coworkers, boss, business partner, busines associates, customers, clients, vendors)
    • Those who helped to shape you (a special grandparent, aunt, or uncle, in-laws, teacher, mentor volunteer)
    • Some who just made your day (stranger, your neighbor, a friendly checkout clerk, a caring doctor, or some who stopped when your car broke down).
    • Someone you have been taking for granted lately (could be anyone)
    • Some who changed your life with their kind words (there are lots of stories like that out there)
  2. Look at our list of compliments or come up with one yourself and then encourage listerns to tell who would give that compliment to and why.
  3. How about a contest asking people to send in their best compliment and the impact it had on their life.
  4. Here are some other questions you could ask listeners to comment on:
    • Who gives more compliments - men or women?
    • Who gives better compliments in their relationship - him or her?
    • Why is it so hard to give compliments?
    • What would happen if you gave your boss/employee a compliment?
    • Have you ever given a compliment to a complete stranger?
